As a communicator, whether it be a teacher, sales person, trainer, presenter, financial adviser, manager, coach, husband, wife, parent, you are responsible for every single one of your outcomes. If the client, the student, husband, wife, child doesn’t understand the message – that is not their fault. It is your fault and you need to change what you are doing and how you are communicating in order to change the result you are producing.
You are in the drivers seat. You are in control and you are responsible for all of the outcomes you produce. The issue arises because usually what tends to happen is that we communicate with people in our own preference style. That is, how we like to be communicated to or how we like to learn. Unfortunately, this doesn’t always work because every single one of us is different and has a different model of the world because how we each see the world is different and we have different preferences and learning styles. What if someone doesn’t have the same style as you?
By being more flexible and being able to adapt your style and preferences to that of your clients or children or staff, you will see a dramatic change in the results your produce. We need to have a range of behaviour that is flexible enough so that we can change our own style to suit the specific circumstance of person we are communicating with.
